Autistic Male in Burnaby
On the afternoon of Friday November 27th Coquitlam SAR was activated by Burnaby RCMP to assist them in the search for an autistic 29 year old male who had gone missing from Central Park in Burnaby.
With temperatures dropping rapidly, the team responded, working with the RCMP dog handler and investigators and began searching the park, activating our partner agency Surrey Search and Rescue for additional personnel and equipment.
The missing male was located at 6:30 by Vancouver Police near Commercial and 2nd, an 8km walk from Central Park.
Short rescue on Diez Vistas Trail
Coquitlam SAR was activated by the Coquitlam RCMP at 17:00 November 29 to search for two hikers caught by darkness on the Diez Vistas Trail in the Buntzen Lake area.
Teams were dispatched to search the trail from the south and north end; the subjects were located at approximately 19:30 near the north end of the trail, and were escorted out.
If caught by darkness, and without a flashlight, it’s a good idea to stop and attempt to find shelter rather than continue moving – in the dark it’s easy to become more lost and injured which makes it harder to find you.
Reminder to the public that days are short, nights are cold and to be prepared with the 10 essentials (including a flashlight) and a trip plan before going on a hike!
