In the late afternoon of Sunday, Sept 11th, Coquitlam SAR responded along with the Coquitlam RCMP, BC Ambulance Service and Coquitlam Fire Rescue for a reported 12 year old male who had fallen near the Coquitlam River.
The BCAS Air Ambulance also responded as did North Shore Rescue for a possible HETS rescue. Both the Coquitlam SAR members and North Shore Rescue members had just completed the mutual task in Golden Ears Provincial Park.
As Coquitlam SAR responded to the scene, Coquitlam Fire Rescue members were able to access the patient and confirm his only injury was to his ankle. The helicopter resources were stood down and a land based stretcher evacuation began.
A combined Coquitlam Fire Recue/Coquitlam SAR stretcher team brought the patient and his friends to a safe spot to cross the Coquitlam River.
Using a multi-person carry, a hand line and down stream safety containment, the injured subject and his friends were brought across the Coquitlam River to the waiting BCAS paramedics
Coquitlam SAR, BCAS and Coquitlam Fire Rescue have completed a similiar task in the past in the same area. In 2005, the groups worked together to rescue an adult woman also with an ankle injury. Coq_River_Rescue_Article 2005[1]
