Recently, the Coquitlam SAR team received a life saving donation compliments of Medtonic Canada Ltd. and its partnership with VANOC. Coquitlam SAR applied to receive an Automatic External Defibrillator to aid in the treatment of cardiac arrest.
This device, a Lifepak 1000, has the ability to deliver electric shocks to restart a stopped heart. It also has the added function of cardiac monitoring for other types of cardiac patients. The unit will be placed on the team’s Coquitlam 2 Rescue/Equipment truck.

Most Coquitlam SAR members, including the many medical and emergency service professionals, are already trained in using the AED.
